Dealing with Stress

Psychological Stress would be defined as the feeling of strain and pressure. Some of the symptoms associated with stress include anxiety, nervousness, high or low blood pressure, skin eruptions and panic attacks. Positive stress is at time desirable especially to athletes’ performance however excessive stress will be harmful to your body.  Stress can be external (environmental factors) or internal (emotional factors) and can worsen existing conditions such as clinical depression, cardiovascular diseases and HIV.

Friend and Family
Sharing your problems with your trusted friend or family member will help you relieve stress. However if they are the stressors in your situation a guidance counselor would be a better alternative. Most churches offer counseling services for free or you could seek out a professional.

Prayer and Meditation
Meditation or pray helps your mind focus on your situation at the same time relaxing your body. When you share your problems with God, you allow yourself to heal by releasing your problems that have been giving you stress. Exercise
Taking up exercising for a few minutes every day has been known to relief stress almost immediately. So whether it is taking a walk, swimming or joining a yoga
class, you are assured to feel more relaxed afterwards.

Laughter
Laughter is the best medicine, a quote from proverbs 17:22, is more true than you think. A good hearty laugh is well known to relief pain, stress and even supports your immune system. According to Laughter Yoga , you will never be depressed as long as your laughing. So how does this work;
1.       Laughter relaxes your muscles for up to 45 minutes
2.       Laughter increases blood flow and improves the overall cardiovascular functions in the body
3.       Boosts your immune cells and decreases your stress hormones.

Work Smarter Rather Than Harder
Prioritizing your work will allow to focus on matters that need to be done immediately and leaving less urgent work for later. This will help you not be overwhelmed by your work load and allows you to be more effective and efficient as well.

Positive Thinking
Positive thinking will allow you to appreciate the things that are going right in your life. Going through a few things that you appreciate helps you see the glass as half full and seeing your situation in a more positive view.

Accepting the things you can’t change in your life will give you more control over your situation. Life is a box a chocolate and you never know what you will get but why not enjoy the small little pleasure that do come your way. Also see Getting out of your depressed state.
